Music has always been one of my main interests and passions and I have always strived to learn and develop my skills and understanding of music as much as possible in my free time. It was only recently that I decided to pursue this interest further and study it full-time, academically at university as it is what I truly believe I want to be doing all my life.
I was introduced to various genres of music from a very young age, started to learn to play the piano at 6 and later then got accepted to a Classical Music school in Russia, Moscow. There I developed and mastered my skills in piano, discovered musical history, solfeggio, sang in the choir and participated in a variety of regional, national and international contests. This experience helped me build a very strong knowledge base in music, thereby developing my sense of rhythm and a musical ear, and developed my attraction to music and its creation.
Then I had discovered my passion for music production in specific through Digital Audio Workstations. I have never really understood how the music was produced and put out for streaming as a finished product before I tried using Logic and Ableton myself.
I started experimenting with DAWs without having any expectations from myself, I just wanted to learn everything there was, so I could then build up my goals and start producing things myself. After a year of starting to learn Ableton I bought a license for Logic Pro X. I wanted to try out working in a DAW that would allow me to mix the music that I record or produce. I started with covers for songs that I enjoyed, arranging them in different styles, like turning a simple vocal/guitar song into a more advanced and layered jazzy composition. I also used the Cambridge Free Multitrack Download Library to develop my mixing skills. After that I just fell in love with the musical world all over again.
Overall, I see myself as a person who is keen and willing to learn and experiment with new ideas and technologies, and I hope that doing a music production course will fuel my passion for music and help me get to where I want to be in the future.
I aspire to create timeless music like Ella Fitzgerald and Pink Floyd and perform on a level of Kendrick Lamar’s production. I can confidently call myself a listener of all musical genres, but I have a special love for rock, jazz, electronic, alternative, ambient music and storytelling. These genres most often correlate with my state of mind and emotions. They have accompanied me every day for years now, and in any mood, I find new sides of myself in listening to them. I can say that I associate all of the important moments in my life with specific songs, and it just so happens that these songs always belongs to these genres. One of my biggest inspirations to becoming part of the music industry is Kendrick Lamar, a musician who has incredible ideas and executes them to their fullest. In his songs I hear the truth, both the sorrows and the happiness in life. Listening to his music I am transported to a parallel universe, he is light and yet very developed, both story wise and production wise in the music he creates. I could say that he never misses with anything he produces. I admire the musicians who developed a true style of music and who are still listened to today, even after so many decades. I think that music development has declined recently, although the development of technology is advancing every day. I don’t think these technologies are being used to their full potential and a lot of music that was made with its help still doesn’t sound as advanced as the music made without it.
My goal in life is to take advantage of every opportunity presented to learn new technologies, develop my skills in using them, and then work with musicians that share the same views on music as me, helping them to shape their musical ideas and making them into well produced records.
