Throughout this module I have faced many challenges, gained knowledge about various producers, developed analytical, researching and writing skills.

To begin with, from the very first lesson we had I knew that I am going to enjoy this module more than any other, because I have always had passion for learning about music from the perspective of its listener and analyser, and writing about it. I was introduced to musical genres that I would not often listen to by the three producers we worked with. I believe that this alone has already compelled me to broaden my musical preferences and value the distinctive unique sounds of various artists.

The approach of looking at each producer and the history behind their production, and then proceeding to create music myself based on what I have learned is one of the most efficient ways of understanding and remembering new information for me. I have always been a person who absolutely needs to understand something fully in order to be able to use this new information in the future, so the schedule of the course and the order of its content mixed with workshops was really suitable for me, and I don’t think that it could have been better.

I have developed my research, writing, and referencing skills, as we had to reflect on every aspect of our knowledge after each session and also use trustworthy resources to backup our writing. The part of the course I have enjoyed the most was the production analysis report and the presentation. I was able to take an album that I truly love and appreciate and turn it into a studying focus. This freedom of choice made me gain motivation and willingness to widen my minds horizons and to do it in the most entertaining way. However, I have faced some difficulties while trying to find suitable resources to address in my work. But this led me to also develop my skills in using the ProQuest online library, which I now use way more comfortably and confidently.

Overall, I have found every part of the course very interesting and full of things that I had very little knowledge about, and I loved learning about them after all. Every session was different from the previous one. Learning about analogue sampling, approaches to electronic compositions, reading articles about politically significant music and intertextuality inside of it, presenting my own project to the whole class, gaining skills in active listening and analysing tracks from different perspectives all at once – all of this made me get out of my comfort zone and ended up developing a large and balanced new set of skills that I am looking forward to using in my future studies and projects.
